Betty Swan (Swan) Easter

Betty Swan Easter, age 94, passed away, Friday, July 24, 2015, at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born Wednesday, May 11, 1921, on the family farm north of Union, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles William and Clara May Copenhaver Swan. She attended Swan Rural School and graduated from Union High School in 1938. She had two sisters, Jane and Joan. Betty married Olney Russell Easter on August 14, 1940, at the home of her parents. To their union they had three children, Mary, Thomas and Betty. Russell and Betty and their family attended Wyoming Cowles Hill Methodist Church until it closed in 1956. At that time they became members of the Union United Methodist Church in Union, Nebraska. Betty was an active member and served on the church counsel. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as president and in many other capacities through the years. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She loved her church and Bible study. She was a member of the Union Women’s Club and was active in the community. She moved to Manassas, Virginia, in 1992 to be with family. She became a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women, Bible study, Sunday School and the Bell Choir. In 2007 she moved with Mary to Charlotte, North Carolina. She loved the land and the farming way of life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched in her 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, in 1959 and 1960; her son-in-law Henry Baier in 1969; her husband Russell in 1972; her sisters Joan Swan in 1985 and Jane Paasch Staack   in 2002.
Betty is survived by three children; Mary Baier (husband Henry) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Thomas Easter and wife Arlene of Nehawka, Nebraska, and Betty Sidel and husband Wayne of Nokesville, Virginia.. She had four grandchildren; Shelly Wurtele and husband Christopher of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark Easter and wife Dotti of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Sandra Olson and husband David of Matthews, North Carolina, and Courtney Parmentier and husband Christopher of Leesburg., Virginia. She had four great-grandchildren; Aaron Wurtele and Jessica, Justin and Kaylee Easter. Two nieces and one nephew also survive; Lynne Lemmer and Ellen Winkelman of Colorado, and Robert Easter of Iowa.
Viewing, visitation and serive will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until service time, the family will be greeting friends at this time, at 11:00 a.m. a Remembering and Celebrating the Life of Betty Swan Easter Funeral Service, at the First United Methodist Church, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Burial will follow at the Cowles Hill Wyoming Cemetery North of Nebraska City, Nebraska.
