Dorothy Mae (Winkler) Hughson, 78, of Nebraska City, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016, at the “Hospice with Heart” in Glenwood, Iowa.
Dorothy Mae Winkler was born Tuesday, December 7, 1937, in Rockport, Missouri, to Leedy John and Hulda W. Charlotte (Rausch) Winkler. Dorothy married  Everette McCollum and they had two children: Vicky Diane Winkler and Evette Dale McCollum. After the passing of Everette, Dorothy moved to Nebraska, where she met Henry “Hank” Hughson, Jr.. On January 1, 1959, they were united in marriage in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. To their union were born 7 children: twins - Cheryl Ann and Caroline Jean, Constance “Connie” Sue, Henry A.  III, Richard Lee, Tina Marie, and George Raymond. They made their home in Nebraska City, Nebraska, where she raised her children. Dorothy worked numerous jobs that include Cambell Soup, Morton House, Happy Harrys Truck Stop, Fetty’s Restaurant, where she cooked for many years, and Kriefels Meat Locker, where as she retired in 1996. Dorothy enjoyed reading romance novels and the bible playing games with grandchildren and watching old movies She resided in Nebraska City until the last few months, due to her health, Dorothy entered the “Hospice with Heart”, in Glenwood, Iowa. This is where Dorothy passed away with her family at her side, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 10 days. Dorothy was preceded by her parents; husbands: Everette McCollum and Henry A. “Hank” Hughson, Jr.; children: infant baby, Caroline Jean Hughson; 2 daughters: Vicky Diane (Winkler) Huffmann, and Evette Dale Lamb; 1 grandson, Adam Lamb; 2 great grandchildren: Michael Lamb, Jr., and Ian Ingram; 5 brothers: Bill Winkler, Richard Winkler, George Winkler, Keith Winkler, and Raymond Winkler; sister Bertha Fenske; and two son-in-laws: Gerald “Smitty” Smith, and James McCollum.
Survivors of Dorothy include: daughter  Cheryl Ann Riley and husband Michael of Nebraska City, Nebraska, daughter  Constance Sue “Connie” Hughson of Nebraska City, Nebraska; son, Henry A. Hughson, III and wife Julie of Nebraska City, Nebraska; son Richard Lee Hughson of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Tina Marie Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; son George Raymond Hughson of Nebraska City, Nebraska; son-in-law  Ronald Lamb of Newport News, Virginia; 28 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Maud Walker-Mullenax of Dwight, Kansas; other relatives and friends.
Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Peterson Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 11:00 am. Burial will fellow at the East Union, near Union, Nebraska. Casket Bearers will be Adam Hughson, Cody Hughson, Marshall Hughson, Wally Swierczek, Norman Ward, and Sabrina Willuweit.                            
Memorial donations may be given in memory of Dorothy Mae Hughson: American Heart Foundation or American Cancer Society.
