Mrs. Dorothea Louise (Hobbie) Boardman, 95 Years, 10 months and 4 days, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother entered into rest on Monday, January 12, 2015, at the Ambassador Nebraska City, Nebraska.
Dorothea was born on March 8, 1919 on a farm near Dunbar, Nebraska as the oldest child to Louise Kathryn (Giittinger) and Karl Fredrick Hobbie. Upon graduation from Nebraska City High School she was a rural school teacher for two years. Dorothea married James Boardman August 17, 1938, in Tecumseh, Nebraska. To their union they had six children, Ronald, Rheda, Larry, Robert, Dan, and Susan. They lived in the Nebraska City, Nebraska and Union, Nebraska area until 1945. Following James's discharge from the Army in 1945 they farmed near Murray, Nebraska and later near Union. In 1971, after raising six children, being a farm wife, and a 4-H leader she returned to the work force and became a manager for the Rural Water District NO 1. She served on the Nebraska Rural Water Association as Secretary-Treasurer and as a Director. She retired in 1992. In 2002 they moved to the Ambassador in Nebraska City. She was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter #1 Order of Eastern Star (OES). In July 2012, she received the Imhof Award from Queen Esther Chapter #1 OES in Nebraska City for being the member with the most years with that chapter (73 years). Dorothea loved to quilt and made quilts for all her children and grand children. Dorothea was preceded in death by her: husband James of 69 years on April 30, 2008, son Ronald on February 26, 2005, grand daughter Cheryl on December 7, 1964, brother Ralph Hobbie on April 9, 2011, and sister Betty Robinson on January 4, 2008. Dorothea has left behind to cherish her many wonderful memories include her children: Rheda Boardman of Boerne, Texas, Larry Boardman and wife Marilyn of Nehawka, Nebraska, Robert Boardman and wife Bethene of Peru, Iowa, Dan Boardman of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Susan Cropp and husband Charles of Burr, Nebraska, daughter-in-law Mrs. Ronald (Shirley) Boardman of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister Dolores Wade of Nebraska City Nebraska; 9 grandchildren: James Boardman, Michael Boardman and wife Sara, Janice Boardman Nitz and husband Michael, Phillip Boardman, Andrew Boardman, Kori Boardman Stuck and husband Aaron, Carrie Cropp, Brian Cropp, Adam Cropp, and Stephanie Boardman; 10 great grand children; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Ambassador for the wonderful care they provided.
Viewing will begin at Peterson Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on Thursday, January 15, 2015, from 1:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. The family will be greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed be an Eastern Star Rites by the Queen Ester Chapter # 1, Order of Eastern Star at 7:00 p.m., Viewing will also be held on Friday, January 16, 2015, 9:00 a.m. until service time at Peterson Mortuary Chapel.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City, Nebraska with interment to follow at East Union Cemetery. Those who so desire may make memorial contributions in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, or Tabatha Hospice Care, or to the charity of their choice.
