Dorothy M. Broers, 86, of Nebraska City, Nebraska, passed away on May 27, 2016, at the Bryan West Medical Center, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Dorothy M. Sherstad was born on February 28, 1930, in Lorton, Nebraska. The daughter of Conrad and Florence (Herberger) Sherstad. Dorothy graduated from the Nebraska City High School in 1947. On August 26, 1952, Dorothy and Delmar A. Broers were united in marriage in Nebraska City, Nebraska. To their union were born two daughters: Susan and Sally; and two sons: Stuart and Steve. They made their home in Nebraska City. Dorothy was homemaker. She really enjoyed music and served as the church choir director for 64 years, serving at the Bethel United Church of Christ and the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dorothy was one of the founders of the Bell Choir, the Annual Christmas Advent Recital, a member of the Bells-A-Peeling and the Lincoln Sweet Adelines. She loved the outdoors, going shopping for collectibles, and visiting with friends on the phone. But her greatest enjoyment was being with her family and watching her grand-kids and great grand-kids grow. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Questers, the Red Hat Society, Beta Sigma Phi, all in Nebraska City. Dorothy was preceded by her parents; husband Delmar on October 9, 2008; son-in-law, Glen C. Baade on March 14, 2013; and a sister Maxine Smith of Brock, Nebraska.
Survivors of Dorothy are her four children: Susan Baade of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sally Bodtke and husband Dennis of Lincoln, Nebraska, Stuart Broers of Nebraska City, Nebraska and Steve Broers and wife Linda of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister Marguerite Chauncy of Clearwater, Florida; her beloved dogs, Sophie and Sassy; other relatives and many close friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the family will be greeting friends from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral service for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
