Helen (Burkhart) Johnson

Helen Johnson, 102 years, 2 months and 3 days, of Nebraska City, Nebraska, passed away at the Ambassador in Nebraska City, NE on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
Helen Burkhart was born on Tuesday, July 20, 1915, on the family farm near Paul, NE, the daughter of Joseph Nickolas and Marie (Schomerus) Burkhart. She attended country school Dist.-56 and graduated from the Nebraska City High School in 1934. On August 20, 1936, Helen married Leo LeRoy Johnson, in Plattsmonth, NE. They made their home on the family farm near Nebraska City, NE. To their union they had two sons: Stanley and Arnold. Helen was the home maker for the family, but also was busy helping on the farm in many ways, enjoyed gardening, helping with family members, going to her grandson’s ball games and being with her family and friends. After they retired from farming, in 1986, they moved to Nebraska City. In 2006, Helen made her residence at the Ambassador-Nebraska City, until her passing. She was a life long member of the Bethel United Church of Christ of Nebraska City, NE. She was a 50 plus year member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Nebraska City, NE, she joined in 1948. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Hilda Hall and Clara Schroeder; brothers: Arnold Burkhart and Ralph Burkhart; husband, on February 10, 1999; daughter-in-law, Jo-Ann Johnson on March 22, 2014.
Survivors of Helen include her sons:  Arnold Johnson of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Stanley Johnson and wife Peggy of Nebraska City, Nebraska; grandsons: Chip Johnson and wife Erin of Nebraska City, NE, Russell Johnson and wife Amanda of Suffolk, VA, Brent Johnson and wife Lacy of Syracuse, NE, and Ryan Johnson and wife Alison of Fleetwood, PA; nine great grandchildren; brother-in-law Raymond Schroeder of Syracuse, NE; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
