Dear Mary Ann and family, I just read of Merritt's death in the Lincoln paper. It has been many years since those days at the AOTT house. I am so sorry for your loss. It was good to read of all the accomplishments of Merritt. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
I pray that God will wrap his loving arms about you and bring you comfort in the memories you shared over all those years together,

Merritt was absolutely one of the finest, most decent human beings I ever knew.
I first met him as our paper boy and later through high school. I remember him also
as a member of the newly formed orchestra where he played the violin. He was what
character is all about. My sincerest condolences to his family. I am sure, as Paul put it, his ship was well laden for his eternal journey. The world is better because he was
in it.
